"Mossy Joe" is the name of a Neel 51 trimaran we acquired in 2023. The name of the boat is a contraction of our late father's respective nicknames.
Tracey's father was also known as "Mossy" (real name Martin), the origin of which is unknown.
Jacques's father was also known as "Joe" (real name Jean), a nickname acquired during and after WWII when American soldiers (among others) brought liberation, freedom and jazz. It was the fashion then to "americanise" first names and "Jean" naturally became "Joe", a nickname used by family and friends alike.
In a sign of respect for our fathers who made us who we are, and to recognise their influence not only on our genes, but also on our personalities, values, cultures an education, we decided to name the boat after them. I think it is safe to say that they would be proud and honored by the gesture. At least, this is what we believe and it is good enough for us. We will take them with us wherever we go!
